Where to STAY in St. Croix

Where to stay in St. Croix Blog

Where should we stay? This itinerary element can be super tricky. In St. Croix, the US Virgin Islands choosing a hotel or resort is no exception. Most accommodations on the island are family-run small businesses and offer experiences like no other.

During my spring visit, I was fortunate to meet some of the hotel/Bnb/resort owners and these are a few of my favorites.

Visiting St. Croix right now is perfect! It is part of the U.S. – #nopassportrequired and the COVID travel portal is pretty simple too!

Sand Castle on the Beach

This oceanfront boutique hotel in Frederiksted is located on the western part of the island has one of the most beautiful pristine beaches I’ve ever seen. The sunsets are breath taking or shouId I say, “will take your breath away.” This hotel is exceptional in decor, class, amenities and its staff!

Our Seaview Suite was devine with a little terrace overlooking the ocean and palm trees, a full kitchenette, fans in every room and breakfast for guests as well as serving lunch and dinner at their terrace restaurant.

Sand Castle on the Beach amenities include:

  • Kayaking and snorkeling equipment
  • Close to hiking and Island Rainforest
  • Two swimming pools
  • Beach Bar
  • Adults only boutique hotel and resort
  • State of the Art Amenities – USB outlets, every light
  • and more…

I had the privilege to meet hotel owner Chris Richardson who was such a delight! His welcoming spirit and nature make me miss the island and their place even while I’m writing this.

Sugar Apple Bed and Breakfast

The Sugar Apple Bed and Breakfast is one of the newest hotels in St. Croix however, it has a long history in the hospitality industry. Originally built in 1780 from island materials (which is really cool!) and then later in 1948 became the Pink Fancy Hotel.

Newly renovated and perfectly located near the pier in Christiansted, the Sugar Apple Bnb is such a unique hotel stay in St. Croix.

This hotel, Bed and Breakfast has a little turtle oasis, Yoga on the patio on Sundays, a relaxing pool deck with an upper patio that overlooks the harbor.

Our room was spacious, had a little microwave, refrigerator, fan, a/c, and visiting this past Spring was a wonderfully delightful stay. Natalie, their manager is fantastic and handled every request with ease!

If you are in the market for purchasing a Bnb on the island, you are in luck! The Sugar Apple is for sale this year in 2021 – you can contact owners Corina and Ryan if you are interested! It would be a great turn-key hotel retirement project to take on πŸ€” – just sayin’

Northside Valley

Northside Valley is an eco-friendly villa estate located on the western part of the island featuring eight villas that provide outdoor living space as well as high ceilings and fans for grabbing the ocean breezes. It is truly an island experience in St. Croix.

The Villas at Northside are located just a short distance from Frederiksted and are in such a shady, secluded peaceful area, you may never return home.

Within walking distance from the villas are swimming holes, the beach, and some of the best snorkeling on the island. It is also close to the Rain Forest and Mount Washington if you would like to do some hiking.

The villas felt huge while I was touring, I wish I had enough days in St. Croix to stay at all these hotels, I just ran out of time.

Meeting Ginger Brown Vanderveer, the Estate Owner was a trip! She loves her family property and I loved touring with her. Each one of the villas is unique and special just like her parents built them years ago!

How do you TRAVEL?

Here’s WHERE to EAT IN St. Croix!

The Buccaneer

This elegant and expansive beach and golf hotel resort in St. Croix is amazing! If you are looking for a world-class resort stay while in St. Croix, The Buccaneer is the place.

Although I wasn’t able to stay while visiting, my group had to cancel due to COVID, I was able to go golfing and grab lunch a few times at the terrace beach restaurant and it was amazing. I’ll have more about the golf course in an upcoming blog and vlog. The course was astounding with panoramic views over the ocean that made me feel like we were in paradise.

The Buccaneer’s beach is amazing and (there’s three of them) on my visit last October we were able to hop in the water and no one else was there. It was surreal. This spring, with travel starting again, I’m happy to report, it was quite busy, YAY!

They offer snorkeling equipment, boat rentals, there are tennis courts, a spa and more. The rooms in the main hotel vary so you’ll want to check the website for your preference. In 2013, The Buccaneer added The Beach House, this is a six-bedroom house, that includes two cottages, and a villa-style master suite.

For my group reservation, I worked with Rebecca and she was fantastic. I look forward to returning again in better days with another group!
