Great Eats in Myrtle Beach

Hereโ€™s a FULL list of my favorite Great Eats in Myrtle Beach. If you missed last weekโ€™s vlog, blog and podcast about golfing Myrtle Beach, please use these to help build a trip or vacation itinerary that will be fun and tasty.

My family has been visiting the South Carolina strand for over thirty years and we have seen restaurants come and go. New ones that have popped up and become our favorites and even expand to being local and regional chains. This blog is dedicated to my favorites and โ€œmust visitsโ€ while we are on the beach.

Shrimp and Grits

Are you a Foodie too?

If you follow me, you know I am a โ€œfoodie!โ€ My father has been in the food service industry, still at 77 and my mother is an amazing cook, whose recipes are coveted by strangers and family members alike. So you can understand why I come by it naturally.

Perhaps you have visited a beach area, South Alabama or Florida or somewhere else on the East coast and discovered a โ€œblahโ€ beach food experience. To be truthful, Myrtle use to have this reputation too. If Iโ€™m sharing there are still a few โ€œtouristyโ€ places that youโ€™ll want to avoid. If you’d like to see which restaurants I’ve given yucky reviews on be sure to follow me on Google Reviews, I only put negative reviews there and I’m just honest with my experiences.

BREAKFAST GREAT EATs!

Blueberryโ€™s Grill
North Myrtle Beach Blueberry’s Grill

Blueberry’s Grill now has three locations. Iโ€™ve visited two of them and it is a MUST-STOP for the past few years. Blueberryโ€™s Grill continues to outshine so many of the traditional breakfast eateries. You’ll see why!

Great Eats Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach Location

MENU: They have a huge menu that includes everything from steak and eggs to kale omelets and gluten free options. If you are an โ€œEggs Benedictโ€ fan, your choices are endless, for example, they have Smoked Salmon, Chorizo and Crab cake as well as a few others that will blow your mind.

If you have finicky eaters or kiddies that you are traveling with there will be something at Blueberryโ€™s to entice them. They also have options that you can create your own. How cool is that. The choices are endless!

They do serve lunch and dinner, but my family would kill me if we didnโ€™t eat here for breakfast at least once during our week at the beach!

Blueberry Hushpuppies

RESERVATIONS: Blueberryโ€™s Grill does not take reservations. However, you can join a waiting list or get your order to go! So, there are options.

Johnny Dโ€™s Waffles & Bakery

Johnny Dโ€™s is owned and operated by Culinary Pastry Chef from Jamie Daskalis a graduate from the Culinary Institute of America or (CIA) โ€“ as a graduate of J&W (Johnson & Wales University) we had a few competitions in New Hyde Park in the 90โ€™s I remember vividly with CIA. So I am quite familiar with the talent and creativity from these grads too.

MENU: The menu is fantastic with freshly made BELGIAN Waffles and all kinds of creations OR you can create your own.

Some waffle treats include

  • CINNAROLL
  • BACON
  • RED VELVET
  • COCONUT BANANA FRENCH TOAST WAFFLE and a bunch more

They also have a huge OMELETTE and EGGS Benedict menu. Some of the combinations are fantastic! Benedicts range between $10-15/each and served with grits, but you can also substitute for home fries for $1

  • IRISH BENEDICT โ€“ with corned beef hash
  • PORK BELLY BENEDICT
  • REUBEN BENEDICT
  • LOX & ONION BENEDICT and a bunch more too!
My Scrambled Eggs Benedict with Avocado

In a hurry? They have a quick early bird menu for $5 that you can order from 6:30 โ€“ 8:30 and you can order on-line!

Johnny Dโ€™s also has a very cool breakfast drink menu with Mimosas made with summery lemonade, a total beach treat!

Spiroโ€™s Pancake House
Welcome to Spiro’s Pancakes

Spiroโ€™s is a family favorite. My parents have become good friends with the Spiro and we love coming here for the BIG BREAKFASTs and warm smiles. In my opinion, the best โ€œPANCAKE Houseโ€ on the Strand for sure. Clean, huge menu, friendly people with bottomless coffee. Whatโ€™s not to love!

MENU: Buttermilk pancakes that are huge! I mean super huge! The kind that soaks up the butter and the syrup, yea that kind. Three Egg Omelettes and they have breakfast sandwiches too all the portions are huge at Spiroโ€™s and they now have gluten free, seniors and kiddo options!

Hereโ€™s the QWERTY code for their menu too.

PRICE: $

Open every day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. โ€“ call ahead to get a table if you need one for a large group. (843) 273-0902

Spiros has been in business on the strand in North Myrtle Beach since 1970. Loved by locals, bikers, and visitors alike. Check out their Facebook page, they also help the community with fundraisers and awareness.

Great EATS!

BRUNCH AND LUNCH
Kingโ€™s Famous Pizza

Kingโ€™s Famous Pizza has been around for 32 years and weโ€™ve been having a special family lunch or dinner tradition here for 30 of those years!! So basically, every year since they first opened! Kingโ€™s has everything from delicious pizza to gyros AND the smells will knock you over from the parking lot!

If you are an annual visitor to the Strand, you most likely stop at Kingโ€™s too. Everyone knows about it. Totally family-oriented, cozy, great service and affordable! Right on Highway 17, you canโ€™t miss the big red and yellow sign!

MENU: The menu is extensive and has Greek and Italian options. If youโ€™ve traveled a bit, youโ€™ll know thereโ€™s a lot of what we consider Italian food in Greece, it has to do with a peaceful occupation between 31 AD and 180 AD. They always stayed Greek but had influences from Rome. Awww, those Romans!

PRICE: $

RESERVATIONS/TAKE-OUT: They have seating for large parties, but youโ€™ll want to check to see availability if you are visiting on weekends. They have take-out as well!

Croissants Bistro & Bakery

This breakfast and brunch favorite will make you feel like youโ€™ve hopped the pond to France for a bit. From macarons to flaky croissants. Croissants Bistro and Bakery is a great pick-me-up some pastries stop to a great lunch/brunch spot.

MENU: I love that they have fried green tomatoes, avocado toast, quiche and their to-die-for salted caramel brownie! Their menu changes for the season โ€“ THANK YOU! We know its fresh and they have a lot of housemade items like potato chips and cranberry sauce. I mean, come on! YUM! They also have Belliniโ€™s which I havenโ€™t seen since Italy! Great Brunch cocktails!

Grumpy Monk

We were able to try Grumpy Monk for the first time this summer at Broadway at the Beach. Cool airy atmosphere, neat bar, great drinks and they have VEGETARIAN OPTIONS โ€“ whoop, whoop! I was very excited to see vegetarian options on the menu.

Grumpy Monk

At the moment, their menu is limited only because of COVID and staffing. However, I was super surprised because “WOW” if this menu is limited, holy cow, it was pretty extensive.

MENU: If you are trying to be โ€œgoodโ€ at the beach, Grumpy Monk will let you โ€œBuild your ownโ€ Salad. YAY! They have a GREAT Happy Hour MENU too, daily 4 p.m. โ€“ 6 p.m.

PRICE: $$

With three locations you can choose from on the Strand and tons of seating.

Normally, ordering on-line is an option. However, due to the labor shortage in Myrtle Beach, restaurants are doing the best they can. We had a great server and service too. So, what, if you have to have another drink while waiting, go ahead!

Great EATS! Lunch & Dinner

Liberty Tap Room & Grill
Welcome to Liberty Grill

An absolute MUST eatery is The Liberty Grill in Myrtle Beach. This Tap Room and Grill has a HUGE menu, spacious seating (which will make you feel COVID-safe) airy and cool outdoor patio, fun drink menu and beer, and superb service.

Liberty Grill is a local chain in South Carolina with four locations. The Myrtle Beach location is our favorite because of its proximity to our Marriott Timeshare. We almost always choose Liberty for our โ€œCheck-inโ€ day no brainer visit, we enjoy the menu and โ€œCheersโ€ like feeling we get from visiting.

Cauliflower Tacos!

MENU: We have enjoyed lunch and dinner at the Grill, they have steaks, I absolutely love their cauliflower tacos. Unfortunately, I no longer see it on the menu. Restaurants are tweaking menus because of COVID, production costs and low staff.

PRICE: $$

Great service and staff. Our server this summer was spot on, Hannah who was โ€œJohnny on the spot!โ€ with drinks, waters (from being on the golf course)

Food is always good and fast and youโ€™re not waiting forever.

Sea Merchants

Located in North Myrtle Beach, this unassuming not audacious at all restaurant doesnโ€™t grab your attention with flashy or โ€œlook at meโ€ signs on Highway 17 to draw you in. Nope! They concentrate on being a family-operated restaurant focusing on serving the best steak and seafood in Myrtle Beach.

Another family favorite, my parents love visiting Sea Merchants and every time they are visiting the beach or are with us, we make reservations here too.

MENU โ€“ The Sea Merchant restaurant has an extensive oyster menu! However, the seafood and steak menu is incredible, with lots of choices. Beginning with Grouper Parmesan, Casino or Shrimp and Scallop Scampi or Fried Local Shrimp. Additionally, another popular dish for the meat lovers, Filet Mignon topped with scallops, crabmeat and finished with Bernaise sauce. Does that sound good on chicken? Well, if it does, you are in luck, Chicken Oscar is prepared this way too and another huge hit.

How about some sweets?

Homemade chocolate cake or pecan pie!

RESERVATIONS: Call to make reservations – 843-272-5835

Extensive wine list, which is a lot of fun! Ask for suggestions.

Flying Fish

Welcome to the Flying Fish

Located in Barefoot Landing this Homegrown Hospitality Group concept is always busy. However, we are gluttons for punishment, because we will face the crowds to visit, every single year! HA!

The cool design and feel of this restaurant is located on the Intercoastal Waterway. This is the inner waterway for the Strand. Itโ€™s always real pretty, especially if you catch the sunset on that side or the fireworks at Barefoot โ€“ they begin at 10:00 p.m. so youโ€™ll have to have a late dinner.

MENU: This southern style menu with local fish and traditional southern fare including southern fried favorites like popcorn shrimp, hushpuppies, fried oysters and clams.

One of the BEST features they have on their menu is a BOIL โ€“ like a seafood boil, shrimp boil, you can add Red Skinned Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Pecan Smoked Sausage, and Old Bay Seasoning.

RESERVATIONS: Flying Fish does not take reservations, but you can call to see what the line is like. Yea, its that good, hereโ€™s their phone number 843-663-3474

To be sure that you will get a seat for your party, especially if it is on the weekends, arrive by 4:30, plus the Happy Hour is fun with special drinks too.

PRICE: $$$

At the Flying Fish there is an automatic 18% gratuity that is added to parties 8 or more โ€“ make a note of this!

Patio along the Inter Coastal Waterway
